The Grizzly Tamer takes its name from a story told by an old miner known as Shotcrete Pete, whose family roots stretch deep into the mountains and forests of British Columbia. According to family legend, Pete’s great-grandfather, trapper and prospector John Stewart, found himself trapped in the wilderness and stalked by a relentless grizzly bear. With his rifle buried beneath his collapsed tent, he had only his trusted hunting knife to defend himself. Through determination, skill, and sheer will to survive, Stewart fought throughout the night. When dawn finally broke, he emerged battered and bloodied—but victorious—carrying the hide of the massive grizzly that had pursued him.

The knife he carried became a treasured family heirloom, passed down as a symbol of resilience and frontier spirit. The Grizzly Tamer™ honors that legacy.
